About Form W-7

• Who fills it in: Non-resident and resident aliens, their spouses and dependents.
• Where it goes: The IRS, with the identity documents the instructions list — usually together with a tax return.
• If you send it on paper, how it must be signed is set by the instructions — some forms need a signature in ink, so print the filled form and sign it by hand.
