Fill in Form I-9 in Chrome, privately

Section 1 of Form I-9 is yours to complete as a new employee: name, address, date of birth, often your Social Security number, and your citizenship or immigration status. PDFPane fills it in inside Chrome, without uploading any of it.

Step by step

1. Open the form your employer sent you, or the current I-9 from uscis.gov, in Chrome and click the PDFPane button — or drop the saved PDF into the editor.
2. Fill in Section 1. Last name, first name, middle initial, other last names used, address, date of birth. Press Tab to move from field to field.
3. Tick one attestation box — U.S. citizen, noncitizen national, lawful permanent resident, or noncitizen authorized to work — and fill in the number that goes with it, if any.
4. Sign and date. Pick Sign, draw or type your signature, and place it in the signature box; Date puts today's date where you click.
5. Download the filled copy and send it the way your employer asked.

Good to know

• Only Section 1 is yours. Section 2 — the documents you show — is completed by your employer, usually within three business days of your start date.
• Ask how they want it signed. Employers that use an electronic I-9 system have rules for electronic signatures; others ask you to print the filled form and sign it by hand. PDFPane works for both: fill it in, then sign in the file or print.
• Why it matters where you fill it: an I-9 carries your date of birth, address and often your SSN and immigration numbers. PDFPane never uploads the file; the only thing our server sees is a count of free downloads per Google account.
