Fill out a W-4 PDF in Chrome without uploading it
Form W-4 tells your employer how much federal income tax to withhold. It asks for your SSN, filing status and, if you use Steps 2 to 4, details about other income and dependents. PDFPane fills it in on your computer.
Step by step
- Open the W-4 from your employer or from irs.gov in Chrome and click the PDFPane button, or drop the saved PDF into the editor.
- Step 1: name, address and SSN, then tick one filing status — Single or Married filing separately, Married filing jointly or Qualifying surviving spouse, or Head of household.
- Steps 2 to 4 are optional: multiple jobs, dependents, other adjustments. Fill in only the ones that apply to you; the amounts go in as you type them.
- Step 5: sign with Sign — drawn, typed or from a photo — and click Date for today's date.
- Download the new copy and hand it to your employer (not to the IRS).
Good to know
- PDFPane fills in the form; it does not work out your withholding. The IRS Tax Withholding Estimator on irs.gov helps with the numbers for Steps 2 to 4.
- If your employer wants a paper copy signed in ink, fill it in with PDFPane, print it and sign by hand.
- Nothing you type is sent anywhere: the file is edited in Chrome on your computer.
